Frequently asked questions

What areas do you cover?

Greater Townsville, including Kirwan, Mundingburra, Aitkenvale, Annandale, Cranbrook, Douglas, Idalia, Bushland Beach, Burdell, Deeragun, Condon and Rasmussen. Not sure if you’re covered? Ask when you book.

How does the free collect and repair service work?

Book online and we’ll arrange to collect your computer or laptop from your home or business, repair it off-site, and return it once it’s done — at no extra charge for the pickup and drop-off itself.

How long do repairs take?

Most straightforward repairs are turned around within a few days. Anything needing parts or deeper diagnosis is quoted with a realistic timeframe before work starts.

What kind of repairs do you actually have experience with?

Plenty. Over 15 years of hands-on repair work has covered building desktops from the ground up, and integrating genuinely old hardware into modern systems — including FireWire, for anyone who remembers that one. On the laptop side, that’s full teardowns, replacement motherboards, soldering a broken charging port back onto a board, ordering and fitting replacement boards for dead USB ports, touchpads, LED screens and keyboards — right down to replacing individual keys on a laptop keyboard, which is genuinely an art of its own. As my son would put it: no job is too big, no job is too small — we’re on the double.

Do you publish your pricing?

Pricing depends on the fault and the parts involved, so quotes are given after a quick assessment rather than published as a fixed list. Book a time and we’ll give you a clear quote before doing any paid work.

Do you actually support Linux and homelabs, or is that just marketing?

It’s genuine. We run and support Ubuntu, Pop!_OS, Debian and Proxmox day to day, and we work with homelabbers who want a second set of experienced eyes — whether that’s troubleshooting a broken setup or planning a move toward more production-grade services.

What happens to the data on my device?

Your data stays yours. We only access what’s needed to diagnose and fix the reported fault, and we’re happy to talk through backup or data recovery options before any work begins.

Do you support businesses, not just home users?

Yes — workstations, small networks, printers and everyday troubleshooting for small Townsville businesses, on an ad hoc or ongoing basis.

What happens if my device can't be fully repaired?

It’s rare, but some faults — failed storage, liquid damage, or severe physical damage — can’t always be fully resolved. If that happens, we’ll tell you honestly rather than push ahead, and you won’t be charged beyond any diagnostic fee already agreed.

Should I back up my data before a repair?

Where practical, yes. We take reasonable care with every device, but we’d rather you back up anything irreplaceable first — especially if the job involves a drive replacement, data recovery, or a full reinstall. Ask us before booking if you’re not sure what a specific repair might mean for your data.

Is my Cal.com booking information private?

Booking details (name, email, phone, appointment time) are handled by Cal.com under its own privacy policy, alongside ours. We use Cal.com’s European instance, which has a strong privacy focus, and our account is secured with two-factor authentication. We only use that information to arrange and confirm your service call.

What if I don't collect my device once it's fixed?

We’ll let you know as soon as it’s ready. If a device sits uncollected for an extended period, we’ll reach out first — any storage arrangement beyond a reasonable window is agreed with you in advance, never sprung on you.
