Why Modern Computers Are So Hard to Fix (And What Changed)

Older computers were built from modular, standard parts with open repair manuals. Thinner designs, glued and soldered components, and software that locks parts to a specific motherboard have made a lot of modern machines nearly impossible to open, let alone upgrade.

Frequently asked questions

What areas do you cover?

Greater Townsville, including Kirwan, Mundingburra, Aitkenvale, Annandale, Cranbrook, Douglas, Idalia, Bushland Beach, Burdell, Deeragun, Condon and Rasmussen. Not sure if you’re covered? Ask when you book.

How does the free collect and repair service work?

Book online and we’ll arrange to collect your computer or laptop from your home or business, repair it off-site, and return it once it’s done — at no extra charge for the pickup and drop-off itself.

How long do repairs take?

Most straightforward repairs are turned around within a few days. Anything needing parts or deeper diagnosis is quoted with a realistic timeframe before work starts.

What kind of repairs do you actually have experience with?

Plenty. Over 15 years of hands-on repair work has covered building desktops from the ground up, and integrating genuinely old hardware into modern systems — including FireWire, for anyone who remembers that one. On the laptop side, that’s full teardowns, replacement motherboards, soldering a broken charging port back onto a board, ordering and fitting replacement boards for dead USB ports, touchpads, LED screens and keyboards — right down to replacing individual keys on a laptop keyboard, which is genuinely an art of its own. As my son would put it: no job is too big, no job is too small — we’re on the double.
