One of the most common questions before booking a laptop repair is some version of “how long will it take?” For a lot of faults, the honest answer is refreshingly simple: usually under a week, parts and couriers willing.

That’s down to working relationships with a variety of suppliers who can expedite the parts that fail most often — batteries, screens, cases, keyboards and chargers. Rather than placing a single slow order and waiting, stock is sourced from whichever supplier actually has the part on hand, and shipped by whichever courier gets it here fastest. Australia Post, StarTrack and FedEx Express all get used regularly, depending on where the part is coming from and how quickly it needs to arrive.

None of that removes Townsville’s one real disadvantage here: we’re a long way from the manufacturing hubs and major warehouses down south, so a part that’s a same-day job in a capital city can genuinely take a few extra days to reach us. It’s a fair trade for living somewhere with better weather, less traffic and a shorter commute than most of the country. If waiting three or four extra days for a screen sounds unbearable, the good news is the harbour cities will always take you back — the rest of us will happily keep enjoying the view.
